The stars have always been a fascinating subject. Perhaps that’s one reason why Astronomy is so popular these days.

In essence, Astronomy isn’t just about studying stars, as most people think. It’s actually a study of celestial objects, which includes not only stars but also planets, comets and entire galaxies. In fact, Astronomy also studies different phenomena that come from outside of the earth’s atmosphere, such as auroras and cosmic background radiation.

In addition, Astronomy, is concerned with a host of other sciences, including physics, evolution, chemistry, how celestial objects move and how the universe was formed and developed. Scientists routinely use Astronomy to test some of the most fundamental theories in physics, such as general relativity. In attempting to explain astronomical phenomena, astronomy joins hands with astrophysics.

Overall, Astronomy is among the oldest sciences known to mankind. Records show that there were astronomers dating back to the days of ancient Greece and India. This is probably where advanced observation techniques originated. In addition, the scientific history of man shows how many amateur astronomers have contributed and played an active role in observing and discovering what is referred to as transient phenomena.

With the dawn of the 20th century, Astronomy was divided into two sciences. These are observational astronomy and theoretical astrophysics. The first one is concerned with getting data and this involves building and maintaining a host of different instruments as well as processing the results of the data it acquires. There are some who refer to this branch of science as “astrometry” or simply as “astronomy”. On the other hand, theoretical astrophysics has to do with ascertaining the implications that can be observed through a computer or through analytical models.

There are those who confuse modern astronomy with astrology but they are two very different things. Astrology revolves around a belief system that presupposes that the different positions of celestial objects have a direct bearing on human affairs. In a nutshell, it is fortune telling with the aid of the stars. Astronomy and astrology obviously share the same common origins but most scientists and other knowledgeable observers know that both fields are clearly distinct.

The calendar is such a routine, everyday item, but how much do you really know about the operation of it. Why is it like that?

The calendar is such a commonplace, ordinary thing, but how much do you actually know about the working of it. Why is it like that?

A DAY: The Earth rotates at a reasonably fixed pace about the imaginary line running between the North and South Poles named the Earth’s Axis. The time it takes to spin once is called a ‘rotation’ and this takes just under twenty-four hours. Nevertheless, because the Earth is constantly traveling around the Sun, the exact time from noon one day to noon the next is 3 minutes 56 seconds longer and this makes a day almost exactly twenty-four hours in length.

The actual time from noon to noon differs depending where the Earth is on its celestial course around the Sun, but if you average the days in a year out, it comes to precisely twenty-four hours.

A YEAR: All nine planets in our solar system move around the Sun in almost perfectly circular paths called orbits. Each journey around the Sun is called a revolution and all the planets revolve around the Sun in the same direction. The direction the Earth takes can be verified by noting its location against the background stars.

In view of the fact that you cannot see the Sun and the stars at the same time, it is necessary to note the position of the Sun in the morning and the see which stars come out there in the night. You will see that the Sun seems to pass through the twelve constellations of the zodiac during a year.

Earth’s trip around the Sun, which seems like the Sun traveling through the zodiac takes about 365.25 days. This varies from year to year, so astronomers add or delete a second in some years to keep their time accurate with the Earth’s motion.

THE SEASONS: The seasons indicate the variation in the pattern of daylight over the course of a year. Because the Earth is tilted off centre, different parts of it receive different amounts of sunlight on different stages of its path around the Sun, a path that we call a year. So, between approximately the 21st September and late March, the Earth’s Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, which produces Autumn and Winter, giving less than twelve hours of daylight per day.

From April to the 20th September, the Northern Hemisphere receives more than twelve hours of daylight a day, creating Spring and Summer. The exact opposite happens in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Equinoxes take place at the points in the year when there is exactly twelve hours of sunlight and darkness in the day. So, the vernal or Spring equinox is on or around the 21st March and the autumnal equinox is on or around the 21st September. Summer officially commences on the day with the greatest amount of daylight, the 21st June or summer solstice.

The winter solstice occurs on the shortest day, the 21st December. ‘Solstice’ is a combination of two words meaning ’sun standing still’ and the days are so called because they are the days when the apparent movement of the Sun reaches its extremes and reverses direction again.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with researching Franklin planner pages.

A few weeks ago Steven Hawking stated that extraterrestrials are certain to exist – but rather than us looking to make contact, the human race needs to be doing all it that may to avoid contacting them.

His suggestions come from a new documentary series through which Steven Hawking, one of the world’s leading mathematicians, will set out his current pondering on a number of the universe’s greatest secrets.

UFOs and Aliens, he’ll suggest, are certain to exist in many different elements of our universe: not just confined to planets, but maybe within the centre of stars or even floating within space.

Hawking also made the suggestion of the potential of alien life and UFO phenomenon before but his views have been confirmed by a sequence of scientific advances, akin to the discovery, since 1995, of more than 450 planets orbiting far distant stars, showing us planets are commonplace throughout space.

He also suggested that UFOs could transport aliens who are only interested in our planets resources: “We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet. I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they can reach.”

He also concludes his speech by saying contact with UFOs and alien races is “a little too risky”. He said: “If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn’t turn out very well for the Native Americans.”

Another recent breakthrough is the discovery that life on our Earth has been confirmed of capable of surviving in the most extreme environments we know. If life can survive and evolve in extreme conditions, scientists suggest, then perhaps nowhere is out of bounds to life.

Hawking’s perception in aliens places him in good scientific company. In his latest Wonders of the Solar System BBC television production, Professor Brian Cox confirmed the idea, suggesting Mars, Europa and Titan, a moon of Saturn, as the places we should be looking in our own solar system.

It is only a matter of time before someone captures the all important UFO videos which confirm the presence of aliens visiting our Earth. Visit our website to see what has already been captured on videos around the globe.

See amazing UFO videos on our website, you’ll discover what’s been caught on camera. We have alien abduction footage and NASA UFO videos amongst a host of other sightings.

The prophecies of Armageddon in 2012 are common across the web, and many people believe in them. Most of these are based on the Mayan calendar which is scheduled to terminate on December 21st of that year.

The Mayan calendar marks the end of the cycle on December 21. It is called a baktun, and it marks the ending of a major cycle. A few people claim that this will be the end of the world, while numerous others declare it starts a new celestial cycle. In truth, the Mayans left this calendar unfinished in that much of the data that should have been included was in no way finished. Scholars examining this culture say it is merely an crucial event that was noted by the Mayans themselves while making no proclamation of the world coming to an end.

Other people declare Nostradamus declared in one of his quatrains that the world would end in this year. The legitimacy is that Nostradamus claimed his prophecies would be valid until 3797. What’s more, there is no mention of 2012 in any of his writings.

You will also see that it is predicted that the earth is ending as a consequence of a plant collision. Nibiru, as it is often referred to, is a mysterious planet that we do not have in our galaxy. None of the planets are out of their orbit, and no scientific proof shows there is a planet aimed at us from anywhere in the galaxy. Aliens coming and destroying the world is also very commonly seen, and while the likelihood that other life exists in the universe is small, the idea of this happening on that date is minuscule.

The probable case of the ending of the world would be from a natural calamity. A volcano erupting and solar flares are the most probable. Even then, the indicators would scientifically be there to back these predictions up, and there is no magma pooling according to the scientists, and no evidence has occurred that a life terminating solar flare has ever happened. Ecological ruin may happen, but we are lots of years from that becoming a reality on the scale of a great loss of life.

Predictions of Armageddon in 2012 are very much the crying wolf it was during the Y2K scare. With no substantiation, the odds of this happening are very slight.

Ancient predictions of disaster, all pointing to 2012, a date foretold as the end of the world.

What about those 2012 doomsday prophecies? Are they something that you should worry about or not? Will the world meet its end on or near December 21, 2012? Something is supposed to happen according to many people who’ve studied the Mayan culture.

But when you ask some people, they say there is nothing stated in any of that history to point to this type of prophecy. There was a lot of Mayan information uncovered, but by far it’s not understood fully. Most likely it will never completely be understood either.

Of course with a theory that is present you know that media will latch onto it and look into it as much as possible. Back in 2006 the History Channel would begin to place on air the ideas behind the 2012 doomsday prophecy. Unfortunately it was a bit sensationalized and saw many other programs stem from the show.

Such ideas as storms that would hit the world with devastating force, anything from volcanoes, earthquakes, and even solar flares. Possibly the mention of the magnetic poles of the Earth switching positions even.

Since the history isn’t really clear on how Mayan’s lived and all that, well this prophecy may just be conjecture. Something that was made up by a historian for a symbol or number they weren’t positive what it stood for.

If you seek out those people who are Maya today and ask them about this, they will tell you nothing. They have no clue what the date means, and are actually more interested in many other things. Maybe this idea wasn’t even Mayan to begin with.

No matter how you view it, in the long run you need to think about this. The end of 1999 when everyone thought computers would stop working. Did they?

Most of us have heard the biblical story of Noah and the Great Flood. This story has carried both moral concepts and legend throughout history. Noah, the Ark, and the Flood is only one of hundreds of stories told around the world for hundreds and thousands of years. These are just a few of the stories:

The Chipewyans have a legend of a deluge when the waters spread over the whole earth. The only exception was the highest mountains, on the tops of which they preserved themselves. The story is told by the Mandans that there were four tortoises on the earth, to the north, south, east and west. Each tortoise rained for ten days, and the water covered the earth.

The Shastus shared a story of the time when the flood came and destroyed all the animals except for a squirrel the size of a bear. Legend says that this mythical creature still exists on a mountain called by the Shastus.

The Papagos near the Gila river holds the story of Montezuma. A great flood came, and only Montezuma and his friend the coyote survived. The coyote had prophesied that the flood was coming, and Montezuma prepared himself a boat. Following the floods the two met up again, and Montezuma sent the coyote in each of the four directions to discover where the sea remained.

The Lenni-Lenapi or Delaware Indians share the legend of the downfall of the first world, the downfall of man after snake worship was introduced, and the beginning of a new race lead by Nana-Bush.

Many of these stories were shared in public domain books such as: Atlantis: the Antediluvian World by Ignatius Donnelly; Ancient Athens: its History, Topography, and Remains by Thomas Henry Dyer; The Mammoth and the Flood by Henry Hoyle Howorth.

With so many stories of great floods we can only wonder if all these legends point to the same Cataclysmic event? Plato gave us the story of Atlantis being wiped out by a major flood, with a large civilization disappearing in one day and one night. Storytellers have carried forth an amazing legend of events that has resounded around the world.

A day that will forever live in history, a day like none before it, December 21, 2012. Will this be the day that will change the world for all times? Will we still be here to see this change take place? Nobody can say just how the world will be changed. Is Mystery Planet X going to collide with the earth, or Is there a massive climate shift headed our way? Everyone will want a guide to surviving 2012 if they hope to stay alive.

The main things you will need to survive are a survival bag. You will need a bag ready to go, with all the essential gear and food needed for your survival. You will need lots and I mean lots of canned food. You and your family need a plan in case of disaster. Run this plan just like you would a tornado or fire drill.

Plan an escape route, and make sure you and the ones you love get educated on survival skills no matter how basic. Have different plans for different dangers, we have no idea what is coming. Everyone else is telling us one thing, and we are hearing another. We can not be sure of anything.

These survival techniques are quite important for your family and for you to know. This situation is scary for everyone involved, but that’s OK you just learn what you can about what is going to happen on that day, but do not think you are smarter than the people out on the street and do not start yelling at people in the street.

Anyone who has time to watch TV has been seeing the news at least, they know what is being said about 2012. I personally like to think that it is not going to be as awful as they think. I think I might see some changes, like I’ve never seen before

The media is hyping up this 2012 event to keep people scared. I don’t think it will be the end of the world, but I think were approaching a new age and I don’t know if it will be good or bad, I just don’t know. Here are some tips on how to get ready for 2012.

I’ve already been over the food, but I don’t think I mentioned water, so stock up on bottled water. So take the tips from above and these extra tips and you have your guide to surviving 2012. The next tip I want to give you is to get closer to your friends and family, learn what they need from you. Learn how you may be able to do more for the ones closest to you. And the most important tip I can give you to surviving 2012 is take life one day at a time.

Are you prepared for doomsday in 2012? Do you know what to do to survive? Find out all the predictions and how to prepare for disaster in 2012. A doomsday that is foretold in the Mayan calendar and ancient Chinese oracles, all pointing to one date, a date foretold as the end of the world. Don’t start praying until you read this eye-opening new report, 2012 Doomsday Prophecy.

There has been much talk over recent years concerning the events that will affect the Earth in December 2012.

There has been much talk over recent years concerning the events that will affect the Earth in December 2012. And there is much talk of 2012 Doomsday survival guides and predictions relating to this upcoming event and how to live through these long anticipated difficult days.

Primarily, the events of 2012 are based on the end date of the Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar. This is thought to end on December 21 or 23. This is also the date of the winter solstice, a time when the earth will be perfectly aligned with a black hole deep within the Milky Way galaxy and the date of the end of the ancient Mayan civilization calendar.

One of the 2012 predictions which has set people talking has the earth colliding with another planet, though this has been mocked by NASA and other experts in planetary movements and things stellar. Another which has received widespread attention, concerns a geomagnetic shift of the earth’s poles. The shifting of the earth’s poles and its magnetic fields will result in natural disasters and catastrophes, such as hurricanes, massive earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis, much like what happened millions of years ago with the last magnetic shift.

There are those providing both 2012 Doomsday survival guides and tips as well as the end of the world predictions. It is thought to be the end of an era, the end of days, the day of disaster.

Already, people are told to start building concrete bunkers high in mountain ranges not prone to volcanic activity. However not all high ranges of mountains are advised, particularly those in the North and South American continents, nor most of Europe; both of these areas are seen as being virtual no go areas.

But humanity can be started again. Survivors will need to be stockpiling provisions already, and already building the bunkers. Those wishing to restart life on earth from a human perspective are also being advised to gather as many academic materials, thesis, conversations, musical work, innovations and anything that will be useful in the rebuilding and reeducating process. 2012 doomsday survival is not only possible, but is being planned by individuals and governments throughout the planet.

However, converse to all this conjuncture are those that reject such claims. There are many who also support slightly different theories and explanations of what is to come; for example where the event and the changes scheduled for December 21, 2012 will result in good for the planet and for humanity. They claim instead that quite apart from 2012 doomsday survival tips and predictions needing to be discussed, that we should ready ourselves for spiritual and physical enlightenment.

A doomsday that is foretold in the Mayan calendar, a Chinese oracle and even an internet based software program. All pointing to 2012, a date foretold as the end of the world. Find out all the predictions and how to prepare for the end of days here. Learn what is really going to happen in December of 2012 with this eye-opening guide to 2012 Doomsday Predictions and Survival.
